MarEngr. Md. Humayun Kabir, a distinguished graduate of Bangladesh Marine Academy, Chattogram (26th Batch, 1991), took command of Bangladesh Marine Academy, Sylhet, in August 2023. His journey in maritime education, coupled with extensive sea experience, speaks of a deep commitment to maritime excellence and education.

Md. Humayun Kabir’s academic foundation began in Noakhali, where he completed his S.S.C. at Noakhali Zilla School in 1987, followed by his H.S.C. from Noakhali Government College in 1989. After graduating from the Marine Academy in Chattogram, he embarked on a remarkable 17-year seafaring career, working with leading product and chemical tanker companies worldwide. His last seafaring position was with ASP Ship Management Pvt. Ltd., based in Singapore and Australia, where he served with integrity and skill, building a sterling reputation.

Transitioning from sea to shore in 2010, Mr. Kabir entered the realm of maritime education and training, recognizing the critical need for seasoned professionals to shape future mariners. In 2011, he joined Bangladesh Marine Academy, Chattogram, as an instructor. His dedication and expertise led to his appointment as Head of the Engineering Department in 2018, a role in which he excelled, further solidifying his commitment to the professional development of cadets.

In addition to his professional achievements, MarEngr. Kabir earned an M.Sc. in Environmental Science from Stamford University, complementing his maritime experience with an academic perspective on environmental sustainability—an increasingly vital aspect of modern maritime practices. He also briefly served as a ship surveyor with the Mercantile Marine Department, contributing his knowledge to regulatory practices.

Beyond his professional responsibilities, MarEngr. Kabir is a father to a son and a daughter and actively participates in motivational programs, driven by his passion for encouraging and inspiring young people.

Now leading Bangladesh Marine Academy, Sylhet, MarEngr. Md. Humayun Kabir brings a blend of practical experience, academic insight, and a commitment to nurturing the next generation of maritime professionals. His leadership marks a new chapter in the academy’s pursuit of maritime excellence.
